Black Car Wax:
words from the Expert

Did you come here looking for black car wax, or more specifically wax that is best for black cars? Trying to find he best rated car wax for black will be like hitting a moving target. Let's look behind the scene and see if colored car wax is fact or fiction.

best auto wax
  • Do the black colored car waxes really work better?

  • Is there any traditional waxes best for black cars?

  • What tips as a professional can I offer to get you better results.

Complicated By The Industry

In the world of professional auto detailing, black paint will make you or break you. While the world of car care will have you believe you need a hundred different specialty polishes, waxes, and buffers, this area doesn't have to be nearly as complicated as we have been lead to believe. Getting professional results can be as simple as picking the right products and applying a few strategic methods; let me offer some help.

black car wax turtle wax color cure

Q - Do black colored waxes really provide better results than traditional car waxes?

A - No, not for most situations. Turtle wax has a colored car wax kit that comes with a wax stick that is used to fill in deep scratches prior to applying the colored car wax. But this is strictly a superficial and temporary fix to a problem. Usually reserved for people trying to hide years of abuse or neglect in order to sell their car to an unsuspecting person.

Q - Why would the industry create these colored car waxes if they offer no additional benefits?

A - While at first thought this concept would seem to make more sense, the real strategy is to move more product onto an ignorant society, rather than delivering better results. By creating these specialized products, the industry is forever able to sell consumers more and more product.

Q - Why is there not more manufacturers that make a black car wax or other colored car waxes?

black car wax zymol ebony

A - I think this is a pretty strong indicator as to the ineffectiveness of this concept. There are a few companies that make colored waxes in a few colors, but it is very limited. Zymol has an Ebony wax that is strictly for black cars without clear coats; of course every car produced today has factory clear coat on it.

Q - What traditional waxes do you recommend instead of black car wax or other colored car waxes?

A - The good news is that advances in modern chemical engineering has made all our lives much easier. Today products exist that have the convenience of spray waxes, with the visual results of paste waxes.

Product Tips from the Expert

aquanilx black car wax

Aquanil X
waterless wash and wax

  • The closest thing to the perfect product.

  • Easy to apply; easy to remove.

  • Equal to, or better results than paste wax.

  • Green product; no harmful ingredients of any kind.

While this is a true waterless wash and wax product, I use it as a quick detailer, or as the final finish for all my high end black and dark colored cars.

This product is a real must as part of your car detailing arsenal of products. This product definitely fits into my philosophy of maximum results with minimal efforts. These types of products have become a real time saver especially for the fact that they are safe for all black vinyl trim pieces. The ability to wax the entire paint surface without worry of staining the black trim is a huge plus for any professional.

This product acts more like a true spray wax product as it hazes up slightly compared to other spray waxes and quick detailers that never haze up. This could either represent a plus or a minus in your world.

armor all wash and wax black car wax

Armor All
wash and wax detailer

  • The closest thing to the perfect product.

  • Easy to apply; easy to remove.

  • Equal to, or better results than paste wax.

  • Can be used in direct sunlight

This product is very close in overall ratings as the Aquanil X from above. There exists a slight difference as this Armor All product is slightly easier to apply and remove. The Aquanil X does provide slightly better finished results though. Overall, you can't go wrong with either one of these over trying to find a colored black car wax; these products will provide great results on your black car.
