Car leather interiors are full of pros and cons like everything else in this life. Since I am often asked by people as to which is better, cloth or leather, I have responded with this page. In answer to that question; "It depends." An answer only each person can make based on their particular circumstances, follow along as I highlight some specific concerns of leather car upholstery, and become an informed decision maker.
- The pros and cons of leather upholstery.
- The pros and cons of cloth upholstery.
Car Leather UpholsteryFor those of you considering the idea of leather car upholstery, there are things to be considered, whether we are talking comfort, or care and maintenance. Most people tend to over-simplify decisions in life, and this might be an area to spend some time considering the variables.- Leather represents a certain opulence that can't be denied.
Yes, cars with leather interiors are esteemed over their cloth counter-parts. - Many consider leather to be problematic, and requiring lots of additional care and concern.
Not the case. Modern day leathers require basically the same concern and care than traditional cloth car upholstery. And in the case of most liquid spills, actually offer a better alternative over cloth. - Many people consider leather to be less durable than that of cloth upholstery.
They wear about the same and this is mostly based on care and maintenance of either. - Leather is nice for cleaning up immediate liquid spills.
Liquid spills will absorb into fabric and cloth upholstery immediately; with leather, you have some time. - Leather is less comforting than cloth.
Leather is cold in the winter, sticky in the summer.
Cloth UpholsteryJust like leather upholstery, cloth comes with its fair share of trade-off's. There doesn't seem to be much confusion regarding cloth upholstery. It seems to carry no mystery or confusion for people with regard to care and maintenance. Probably for a couple main reasons:- Cloth or fabric upholstery, has not confused with regard to the entire leather dressing, or conditioner debate.
- Since leather is more expensive, it is esteemed and considered "special" by society. The industry responds with "special" marketing and advertising, filled with many erroneous and ambiguous terms.
Despite cloths' more benign place in society, there are still points worthy of examining in determining which is a better choice for you between cloth or car leather interiors. - Cloth feels good all the time.
Unlike leather, cloth feels good whether it be hot or cold. - Cloth hides dirt better.
As a general rule, cloth hides dirt better than that of leather; especially light colored leathers. - Cleaning and maintaining cloth upholstery can be basic and simple.
Minimal effort is required for the care and cleaning of your cloth interior.
Car leather interiors are not for everyone. I hope I have provided some additional points to consider so you can answer for yourself, "Which is better?" Only you can decide that.
