Having been detailing RV's of all shapes, sizes, and conditions as long as I have been detailing cars, I have had to learn the hard way what works and what doesn't when it comes to finding the best RV wax. A big part of the problem is that most people over-simplify the area of RV and marine care; we tend to make a direct comparison to car paint care and come to conclusions that have no foundation. While it is true that virtually any product you consider as the best rated car wax will be suitable and safe for your RV or boat, doesn't mean that it is a product that is the most "effective" for use on your RV or boat. We must remember that car paint is car paint, and not fiberglass or gel coat like that of boats and RV's.

The Simple Answer

The simple answer is this, any car wax product will work as the "best RV wax". The more specific questions would be the following:

• Do I need to shop for a special RV wax, or a special marine grade wax?
• Which car wax products work best?

Answering these two questions will be the solution to you finding the best in RV and marine wax that will deliver the protection and durability most RV and boat owners are looking for!

Simply put, "no". The real question here is this, "What is the most durable product that offers the ultimate in protection?" For if we can answer this question, then we have found the best RV wax that will also be the best boat wax.
Think about this for a moment; if science can produce a product that outlasts traditional carnauba based car waxes, wouldn't car owners want this same lasting and durable protection just like RV and boat owners would?

The answer of course is YES!

This is how the industry sells us consumers more and more product. You take the science of synthetic polymer technology; a technology that produces a sealant that will out last carnauba based waxes by 10 to 1, and you simply label them as different and unique to that of car wax products. Now people are out chasing their tails looking for the ultimate in protection for their cars, and now also looking for the ultimate in protection for their RV's and boats with specially labeled RV wax or boat wax! Both ingenious and diabolical!

If you are unfamiliar with polymer technology, you are not alone. Half the problem is that the industry of car care and RV care, co-mingle and misuse terminology; this only adds to an already confused and ignorant public. What one company calls an RV wax, could actually be an RV sealer due to the fact that no actual wax ingredient even exists in the product. Or another company may label a product as a car polish, even though there is no actual ingredient that would legitimately make it a polish. The confusion is everywhere, and for this reason I say trying to find the best rated car wax or the best RV wax is like trying to hit a moving target!
Without boring you and confusing the topic, polymers is simply the combining of synthetic chemicals that are able to create bonds to each other at the molecular level, that are stronger and tighter than the bonds created by natural carnauba ingredients; therefore the durability and protection factor is much greater than the natural carnauba based waxes and sealants. The absolute ultimate in durability and protection will be pure, 100% synthetic polymer sealants, versus hybrid blends of natural and synthetic. Now that we understand the exact product we are looking for as the best RV wax based on durability and protection, let's break it down further by defining the different variables with "appropriate" applications.

Defining Our Project

As I said at the beginning, car care products are safe for use on RV or boat applications, but not necessarily appropriate or effective. Because RV's and boats are constructed using fiberglass and gel coat, the oxidation process is different than the two-stage, or clear coated car paint process. And because of the size of most boats and RV's, basic requirements of care and maintenance are dramatically different than that of cars. It is unrealistic to think most people have the capacity and time to go out and wash-n-wax their boats and RV's as they would their cars; look how many car owners can't even keep up with proper care and maintenance on these, much smaller items! So in order to talk about finding the best RV wax or boat wax, we must realistically discuss what most boat and RV owners are faced with, and that is varying levels of oxidation. Depending on the level or amount of oxidation present on your boat or RV, will determine the product and strategy used.

If you are the proud owner of a brand-new RV or boat then the answer here is a simple one; you simply shop for a quality 100% synthetic polymer sealant. (remember, we say sealant as there is no wax ingredients in these so it is officially called a sealant. But don't embellish the moment either and think that a sealant is some form of hard invisible layer that is created or laid down onto the surface of your RV; it is simply a product that looks and acts like a liquid wax product that also happens to outlast the wax product dramatically.)

When fiberglass and gel coat oxidizes, the surface becomes dry and chalky looking; often blotchy as different areas fade and oxidize at different rates.
