Turtle Wax Ice

Turtle Wax Ice
Synthetic Liquid Polish

turtle wax ice

  • Easy to apply...actually, a little too easy
  • Safe for black trim; good thing as you will be getting it everywhere!
  • Miserable to remove; unless your working on a white car and then you can't tell if it's off anyways.
  • No white residue
  • No dusting
  • Synthetic ingredients
  • Can be used in direct sunlight
  • Safe for most exterior materials

Darren's Remarks

Turtle wax brand has been around longer than I have been around as a person, and if you subscribe to the notion that longevity is king, then you needn't look any further, because it would be hard to find a company with a longer history than that of Turtle Wax. But if you are looking for a product that can actually deliver the results, then you probably should look elsewhere.

Since I test all my product auto wax reviews on black cars, it really brings out the benefits and faults with a given product; this product I find, has more faults than benefits.

Sure the packaging looks neat, and there seems to be something appealing with the fact that the product itself is completely clear. I am not sure if this is the power of suggestion at work or not. I think there are a lot of guys like myself, who have been around so long that the idea of a product being completely clear is appealing; since we are so familiar with the negatives of traditional waxes like staining, dusting, etc.

Turtle Wax Ice is certainly easy to apply; too easy in fact. Meaning, it is a liquid that comes with its own applicator, and because it is so fluid, you will accidentally be getting it everywhere; it flows onto your paint like butter.

The instructions instruct to allow some drying time; 3-5 minutes. I used this product in the direct sun as this was also a claim made by the manufacturer. I never really could figure out if it had truly dried or not; even after more than 5 minutes on rather warm black paint.

Taking it off was very easy, if you want to call it taking off. It really never comes off completely; just kept streaking and leaving shadows of greasy looking marks.

One of the draw backs to this product is its inability to remove even the faintest of water spots, or water marks. The kind of water marks that are normal after wiping or washing your car. Of course this is only on black or very dark colored cars, but the fact is, they are still there even though they will be less visible the lighter your car is.

Using the Turtle Wax Ice would require me to wipe down my paint to a flawless state before I apply it; generally, I am looking to decrease my work load, not increase it.

It is also labeled as a polish; as apposed to a wax or sealer. This is yet another example of how car care companies continually confuse us my commingling subjects and terms. Polishes, or polishing should be reserved to a product that actually has some form of true polishing features; either through chemicals or abrasives.

I don't believe I could use this product in my own auto detailing business due to lack of user friendly characteristics. Perhaps in your own car detailing efforts, you might just find you like the way this product works.; doubtful though. Of course you could simplify your life and shop form among my personal favorites within the column over the the right of this page.

Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax

Meguiar's Ultimate Quick Wax is a spray detailer and wax all in one. Use as a stand alone wax after using the clay bar, or to enhance and refresh any wax already on your paints finish. This product is so easy to use, and very light in consistency, I actually use this as a Quik Detailer; this way I am also getting added wax protection and enhancement each time. Recommended for any dark colored cars after washing for added depth and glossing. Ideal for hot climates, as can be used in direct sunlight on hot paint.

Griot's Garage Micro Fiber Cloths

If you are new to micro fiber, you are in for a big treat! These amazing wonders have completely replaced the ageless staple of baby diapers as the universally accepted tool for wax removal. So versatile, you will find many other uses for them also. I simply reserve a number of these cloths for wax removal only.

Water Sprite Chamois

The exact chamois I have used professionally for over twenty years; still the best! I like this over-sized version that I cut in half; one half is reserved for freshly washed cars, the other half for dirtier jobs like wiping door jambs. Simply hose out with pressure when they get dirty. All the benefits of natural chamois, with none of the drawbacks! An absolute must for every "Driveway Detailer".
